DWC VR Crowd Sim

1. Experience

I was asked to put something together to help make the client hire us for DWC. An "Added Value" operation I believe it was called. I was given a couple of weeks and a bunch of incomplete BIM models to "throw" into VR as it was put. I started off exporting everything to FBX and Revit DB and then manually cleaning everything in Max. I utilized a plugin for unreal called arch viz (this was when it first came out) so I could swap assets out in realtime and change materials etc.. I also used a AI behavour script to spawn and automate the ai with different behaviours and areas of interest. The final version also had simple wayfinding as "signage and wayfinding" was one of the key sales pitches for my company. Needless to say it didnt go anywhere...

2. Result

Again, poor management led to this being scraped before it even got of the ground. The potential unrealized but the older gentleman of the industry. The final product could have been used for FM training, Crowd control, threat detection training, wayfinding/signage, AR expereiences you name it. The plan was to link legions crowds simulation parameters to the various unreal engine AI's which would have made it industry standard. I can't express how frustrating it was to be preching everything we now see every day on linkedin and social media. Especially with the advent of "Meta".

3. Role

Again, (Yes i'm being lazy)I strongly believe XR technology has so much more of a role to play in how we interact with our data, granted its just another medium but its potential to impact how we interact with our world has barelt been realised.
